Free Music Festival XXXIII

I went to the 18th edition of the Free Music Festival at the Singel in Antwerp where I saw Marc Ducret (guitar) & Scorpène Horrible (video performance).

The surprise of the evening was the Italian band Zu accompanied by Mats Gustafsson, although I left when my ears started to hurt after a prolonged electronic noise interlude.

Free Music Festival is an initiative of Fred Van Hove, a free jazz musician best known for his collaborations with Peter Brötzmann.

Take Yo’ Praise

‘Take Yo’ Praise’ is a 1975 song by Camille Yarbrough of her The Iron Pot Cooker album which was sampled in 1998 by Fatboy Slim.

I’ve just heard the original for the first time on French online radio station Radio Nova and it’s sublimely life and love affirming.

I have to praise you when you hold me
when you work your way around
ain’t a part of me left over
that your sweet love ain’t found
you make my (my) moan turn to whisper
you make my whisper turn to call
you make me scream
and scream that I love you
when you (when you) make me rise and fall

The track is available on Nova Classics series, volume 6

Liquid Liquid — “Cavern”

Liquid Liquid — “Cavern”

Sugar Hill Records, of course, ripped off this bassline for their hit “White Lines” (rather than sampling it, they had the house band replay it in order to avoid paying royalty fees), thereby making it one of the most instantly recognizable licks in American popular music. Word has it that the mobbed-up Sugar Hill were wont to physically intimidate members of Liquid Liquid when they made some noise about this.

Question: does anyone know how to include Youtube embed code in wordpress? I paste the code into the html-editor but wordpress just strips it off again when updating the code.
