The Erotická revue[1] was an arts journal launched by Czech surrealist Jindřich Štyrský in 1930. It is also the name of the blog of American author Evie Byrne[2].

Speaking of Czech surrealism, I just found some Svankmajer clips at YouTube. Some of his best work: Dimensions of Dialogue (1982), which shows Arcimboldo-like heads gradually reducing each other to bland copies (“exhaustive discussion”[3]); a clay man and woman who dissolve into one another sexually, then quarrel and reduce themselves to a frenzied, boiling pulp (“passionate discourse”[4]); and two elderly clay heads who extrude various objects on their tongues (toothbrush and toothpaste; shoe and shoelaces, etc.) and use them in every possible combination, sane or otherwise (“factual conversation”[5]). Follow the links to see more of Jahsonic fave Svankmajer.
Last minute, it’s Trevor Brown day[6] over at Dennis Cooper‘s blog.
That Sarah Goodridge painting would make a good IoEA. It is also a bit surreal, and also a bit macabre, as it looks rather like one of those wax anatomies. Evie’s post has a link to Illustration Art blog, which has a nice detail showing the paint texture. And the story about the picture is so good.
Also on Evie’s blog, on Dec 3, 2007, an amazing video of a Nick Cave and P J Harvey duet. As Evie says, so intimate you feel like an intruder…
All 26 Svankmajer shorts are now on a DVD box set. BFI.

Yes it would, a good thing too was that I was not familiar with it.
I read the story, very good yes.
Loved the Harvey/Cave clip, you’ve been poking around on that blog 🙂
Here is the link for those of you who want to order the Svankmajer collection.

Jan, thank you so much for friending me so that I could discover you! ‘ll be blogging about Jahsonic on the Erotická Revue soon–I think my readers will love your IoEA series. I know I do.
And I wanted to say to Paul Rumsey — isn’t that Henry Lee video amazing? I was not sure if I was being oversensitive, but the first time I saw that video I had to turn my eyes from the screen, embarrassed. Then of course I had to watch it again. So glad you gentlemen agree.
best,
Evie
