Dali worshiped the Old Masters and loathed most modern art. Yes, of course he know of Bellini’s work. Not sure why you make this particular connection, though.
Because of the drippiness, the “camembertness” of Bellini’s work. It’s the first thing what I thought when I saw this work.
I don’t see it. Sort of contrary to everything I had thought he was about. Solidity, real volumes, 3-D space. Looking at the two images, I do sense something alike, but I suspect it’s Dali’s homage to renaissance landscape. The rocks of Lligat and Gethsemane.
This might be one case where taking a look at the original gives a very different impression than a reproduced digital image. They are NOT the same!! I’ve been fooled many times…
