Oh my, his work is really breathtaking, how come I have never heard of him, better do some research now. I don’t know what makes me prefer Woman in Front of Mirror, I could just look at it for 5 minutes without blinking, well, maybe just a few times. 😉
The painting is known as “Portrait of Anna Maria Magnani” and is in fact from 1814. Anna Maria Magnani was the mistress of Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen.
Ian, 19th century artist who do not hail from France, Germany, the U. S. have a hard time getting noticed I guess. But this also means that one can still find gems in those areas.
