There is a very good Afro-Caribbean “mix tape”

There is a very good Afro-Caribbeanmix tape[1] (by DJ Geko Jones [MySpace] and a track listing here) over at Wayne and Wax. Other music blogs I am currently subscribed to include the Simon Reynolds, Swen’s blog[2], WFMU, Mixtuur, The Wire‘s The Mire[3] and Phinn. Woebot is still missed.

Needless to say, I cannot agree with Sebastian Horsley (Dandy in the Underworld ) when he angrily says:

I’ve had enough of this shit[4]. The internet is for those who lack the flair for conversation. A blog is what you write for after being rejected by all the reputable publishers. It is Loser Central. The last refuge of the refuse.

Where else but on blogs can I read, watch and listen at the same time. The only off-line media I still follow are Focus Knack (a Belgian general interest arts and culture mag), an occasional newspaper and occasional snippets of televised and radio-broadcast news.

Can you live without off-line media?

P.S. From that mixtape:

Eres para mi Julieta Venegas

Eres para mi Julieta Venegas

    Any fool can find fault.

I’ve been a DJ since 1986 and blogging is like creating an ongoing multimedia set that can be accessed at any time.

It’s all what you do with it and make of it. If it’s not your thing, fine, there’s plenty else to do. The blogosphere is just one more fascinating thing to explore.

    Hey J,

The pleasure is mine, as well.

I am a regular reader and always look forward to more.

Thanks for the blog leads above, some good stuff in there.

Once again Thanks for the goodness. I am an acolyte of jahsonic, Mudd up, Mutant sounds and Analog Africa.

For the disco, cosmic , Balearic sounds you cannot go wrong with Another night on earth and alainfinkielkrautrock, both of which have changed the way I view dj culture.

You yourself have changed the way I think about art and culture.

The issue I have with offline media is that it is dictated by advertorial and consequently lacks passion. If an individual is both passionate and knowledgeable then I find myself captivated.

A lot of journalism today is banal, regurgitated and ill informed.
Op-ed has overtaken the essay and opinion is no longer required to be informed.

Compare and contrast 70s/80s Playboy,GQ,Vanity Fair with todays version.

I don’t own a TV, why? unless you are a sports fan.

Thank god for the dvd box set, The Wire,Shield,Sopranos,Deadwood and Lost ,which I initially condemned as David Lynch for Muppet’s

Always a pleasure never a pain Mr Sonic.

Thank you , for making me think…..

I would be very interested to read your insights into the edit.

Walter Gibbons,Ron Hardy, Chip Nunez Latin Rascals and Eno of course.

There is a global re-edit scene by and for vinyl junkies at the moment. It brings these records back into circulation. Granted the numbers are small but the passion is timeless and the quality assured.

Is editing the true art of cinema?

Your the only individual I am aware of, who could answer the above in a succinct fashion.

    Many thanks.
