RIP Azio Corghi (1937 – 2022)

In Italië stierf de componist Azio Corghi.

Als ik aan naoorlogse klassieke muziek denk, dan komen afbeeldingen van platenhoezen in mij op. Die zijn vaak erg mooi.

RIP Carmelo La Bionda (1949 – 2022)

In Italië stierf Carmelo La Bionda. Hij was een zanger en songschrijver. Hij werd 73.

Hij maakte samen met zijn broer deel uit van een muzikaal duo dat zich La Bionda noemde, wat ‘De blonde’ betekent. Het was hun echte achternaam.

“One for You, One for Me” (1978) van La Bionda. In de videoclip wordt de oriëntalistische buikdanseressensfeer doorgetrokken.

Het duo maakte discoplaten. Hun grootste hit was misschien “One for You, One for Me” (1978). ‘Eentje voor jou, eentje voor mij’ zongen ze dus. Het is me nooit duidelijk geworden wat ze daar onderling aan het verdelen zijn.

De hoes van de elpee waar die compositie op staat, is een kitscherig oriëntalistisch tafereel dat niet zou misstaan naast een slavinnenmarktschilderij van Jean-Léon Gérôme en waarover Edward W. Said schande zou spreken.

“Cafe” (1978) van La Bionda

He duo werkte ook onder de naam D. D. Sound en in die hoedanigheid releaseten zij een maxi single die de naam “Café” (1978) kreeg. Die plaat draaide DJ Larry Levan in de legendarische New Yorkse discotheek Paradise Garage.

“I Wanna Be Your Lover” (1980) van La Bionda

Een persoonlijke favoriet is misschien “I Wanna Be Your Lover” (1980) over een man die dringend uit de ‘friend zone’ en in de ‘boyfriendzone’ van een vrouw wenst te komen.

Marino Masé is Dr. Derek Joyce in Nightmare Castle (1965) and can be seen from 32:50 onward.

Marino Masé (1939 – 2022) was an Italian actor. He appeared in more than 70 films between 1961 and 2006 and is known for performances in such films as Nightmare Castle (1965), Tenebrae (1982) and The Belly of an Architect (1987).

Above is the full version of Nightmare Castle (1965) a mad doctor and the new flesh type of plot film starring a whipped Barbara Steele.

RIP Piera Degli Esposti (1938 – 2021)

Piera Degli Esposti was an Italian actress known for performances in films such as Il Divo (2008).

The film The Story of Piera (1983), directed by Marco Ferreri, was based on a book of hers, but she did not star in that film.

RIP Antonio Salines (1936 – 2021)

Antonio Salines was an Italian actor known for his parts in Monella, The Gamecock, and Senso ’45.

He is also the devil in Liebeskonzil (1982) which is available now in a German-only bad quality YouTube version.

Liebeskonzil (1982)

Liebeskonzil (1982) is a film by Werner Schroeter, based on the scandal play The Love Council (1894) by Oskar Panizza.

The play [and the film] are set in 1495, during the first historically documented outbreak of syphilis.

It portrays the dreaded venereal disease as God’s vengeance on his sexually hyperactive human creatures, especially those surrounding Pope Alexander VI.

Panizza was charged with 93 counts of blasphemy and served his full 12-month sentence in prison.

Kitsch: The World of Bad Taste (1968)

Vittorio Gregotti was an Italian architect. He contributed the essay “Kitsch and Architecture” to Kitsch: The World of Bad Taste (1968) by Gillo Dorfles.

While the essay references Googie architecture and the kitsch of the roadside attraction, it fails to cite God’s Own Junkyard (1964).

It also fails to foreshadow the positive view of kitsch in Learning from Las Vegas (1972).

World Cinema Classic #189

Years ago, I posted [1] two highlights of see-through erotica.

Both were film stills. The first[3] was from Succubus (1968) directed Jess Franco, the second[4] was from Castle of Blood (1964), directed Antonio Margheriti.

Today, the full movies of these stills are available on YouTube:

From Castle of Blood I was able to find the exact location of the film still in question[4]. The woman who is wearing the translucent crinoline and who bares her perky breasts appears to be Sylvia Sorrente (Elsi in the film).

From Succubus I was unable to track the still. However, I was able to get a wider shot[6]. La Reynaud appears to be stripping for a pianist seen from the rear in the back.

Castle of Blood is a good film, with an eerie soundtrack by Riz Ortolani. It is World Cinema Classic #189.
